Google Docs Spreadsheets - Grade Book

Google Docs Spreadsheets, a web 2.0 digital tool, is a spreadsheet/database program. This program is very similar to Microsoft Excel, but an advantage of Google Docs is one document can be maintained by having only one copy to which numerous contributors have access.  Documents are created and stored on Google Docs.  A public URL for each document is created and shared requiring no sign-in to view the document.  This makes managing one single document so much easier and efficient.  For this assignment, I had to develop a grade book.  My grade book included data for five different students, three different subjects, and three different types of charts.  Visual literacy principles were followed to make the grade book visually appealing with appropriate design elements. Spreadsheets are great tools for analyzing data in the classroom. Spreadsheets can be used by teachers and students (all grade levels).  As a resource for students, the ability to create charts in support of correlating data and format spreadsheets with various font types, colors, and shading makes this great for learning analytically and visually.  For example, students can use spreadsheets to analyze weather data, explore measurements, chart plant growth, and more. This tool allows teachers to compare test or assignment scores of various students, the whole class or perhaps review the progress and learning process of one individual student.  It brings new perspective and better understanding of analyzing numbers and data through functional, visual representation.
