PBworks.com - Emergent Technology Review Wiki

A Wiki, utilizing web 2.0 technologies, is easy to create and edit; it is basically a number of linked web pages forming a collaborative website .  For this assignment, I had to explore, research, and evaluate two emergent technologies and compile that information into an educational Wiki.  I created my Wiki space on PBworks.com.  As I progressed through this assignment, I recognized and understood that the exploration, research, and integration of technologies will be vital to the teaching and learning process.  My two reviews were on Pixton for Schools and Virtual Field Trips.  I chose these two due to the creative thinking they promote and the visual and hands-on aspects they offer, making them both innovative and effective tools for a variety of learning styles.  Included in each review are videos and hyperlinks to supporting Internet resources.  Please click on the Wiki link below or the screen shot above to personally view my Wiki.

While designing my Wiki, I envisioned utilizing such a tool to enrich the learning experience of my students across the curriculum.  For example, this tool could be used to research a science or social studies topic (on an individual or group basis) and shared as a resource, learning tool for classmates.  An assignment such as this would incorporate the main subject (science or social studies), English language arts (writing, vocabulary, and spelling), and the fine arts (including visual design elements, font colors, and more).  It could also be utilized as an assessment tool.  In other words, the teacher could have the students individually establish a Wiki for demonstrating their knowledge before a unit begins, during or at the conclusion.  This would be an unique method for students to express themselves.
